Lately I have been in a crummy mindset much of the time. Not constantly, but much of the time. It has been affecting my relationships with others on many levels. The negativity I have felt has been reflected right back to me by individuals I might have been judgmental towards. Today I was sitting at work when one of my associates came in. As she sat there, I realized there was something about her I thought I didn’t like. Instead of putting a cap on this train of thought and focusing on some of her positive qualities I let myself continue this judgmental thinking. Later that morning, as I was walking towards the community kitchen, I overheard her telling another employee how much she disliked me. I felt bad of course, but realized that when one focuses on the negative, that’s what they get back. This has been a great lesson for me. Next time I will focus on finding positive qualities about someone – instead of negative ones.

The I Ching is a form of divination dating back to Confucius, over 5000 years ago. It is of such significance that until recently every single educated Asian was expected to know it. Carl Jung called it ‘a book for lovers of self knowledge’. The beauty of the I Ching is that by asking questions and throwing coins the seeker connects with their higher self and receives the answers they need. There is no way one can control the way the coins fall. In the 23 plus years I have been a student of the I Ching I am constantly amazed and inspired by the wisdom it presents. I will be teaching several classes on the I Ching in the near future. Please go to ‘classes and events’ on my website for more information on this (and other) classes.

By showing gratitude daily, you absolutely remove negativity and raise your vibration. You find the smallest thing to appreciate, and you begin to attract even more good. This isn’t to say there will be no negativity, only that it won’t last as long.

According to the I Ching, ‘An obstacle lasts only as long as it is necessary’. In other words, when one learns the lessons a challenge presents, there is no need for it to repeat itself. The idea is one’s neutrality. By keeping still and responding when impelled to do so, the steps required to extricate oneself from the situation are evident. Or, put more simply: when in doubt do nothing.

Last night I contacted my niece, Kali. We have not seen each other in over 30 years. My brother (her father) said she is on Facebook. I looked-there she was. I emailed her and within the hour she wrote back including pictures of herself and three beautiful children. I look forward to catching up soon!

This year is the first time I have turned down corporate positions to pursue my dreams of doing classes and readings full time. It is scary, but very invigorating and energizing. You know how you just ‘know’ when you are doing the right thing? This is one of those times. One thing I have started doing is reading the Abraham-Hicks daily quote email message. Sometimes adversity is Spirit’s way of saying that the old no longer works. It sometimes means opening up to the new, without knowing what it is; remembering that if we jump, the net will be there.
